J. F. Johnston Rites Thursday
Services for James F. (Mike) Johnston, 80, of Carbondale, who died of a heart attack Tuesday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home. Burial will be in the cemetery at Vandalia.
Mr. Johnston, who had been ill three days, was a painter for the Des Moines Public School System before his retirement.
Born at Fredric, he lived in Monroe County before moving to Polk County 43 years ago. He attended the Carbondale Evangelical Free Church and was a charter member of the Painters Union, Local 246.
Surviving are a son, Floyd F. of Des Moines; a daughter, Mrs. Lenore O’Neel of LaCrosse, Wis.; three grandchildren, and a great-grandson.
