Johnie L. Mott and Harlan Mott, Sr.
Joint funeral services for Johnie L. Mott, 87, and his son, Harlan Mott Sr., 63, both of 2524 S.E. Maury St., will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Vandalia Cemetery for Johnie Mott and in Laurel Hill Cemetery for Harlan Mott. The Motts died Thursday at home. Investigators ruled Johnie Mott’s death a homicide and Harlan Mott’s death a suicide.
Johnie Mott was born in Jasper County. He lived in Des Moines most of his life and retired as a tire building at Armstrong Tire and Rubber Co.
Harlan Mott, also born in Jasper County, was a veteran of World War II and had been a construction worker until a few years ago.
Johnie is survived by two sons, Kenneth of Leighton and Jack of La Mirada, Calif.; two daughters, Linda Atchison of Grimes and Agnes White of Pleasantville; two brothers, Russell of Mesa, Ariz., and Ben of Knoxville; a sister, Margaret Niccum of Pleasantville; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
In addition to Harlan’s sisters and brothers, he is survived by two sons, Steve and Harlan, and two stepdaughters, Debra Garcia and Sharon VanZandt, all of Des Moines; and three stepsons, Gerald Bradford of Des Moines and Mark Sheehan and David Bradford, both of New Virginia.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.
