W. Van Maanen Dies at Farm Home
Prairie City – William Van Maanen, 54, a longtime resident of Prairie City, died Monday morning at his farm home six miles southwest of Prairie City.
Mr. Van Maanen was throwing bales of hay down from a mow when he collapsed and died.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ in Vandalia.
Evangelist Tom Dennis will conduct the services. Burial will be in Vandalia Cemetery.
Walters Funeral Home in Prairie City is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Van Maanen is survived by his wife; a son, William Dale of Vandalia; a daughter, LaDonna Lea at home; two brothers, John of Fremont and Casey of Mitchellville; and three sisters, Mrs. Ella Beyer of Sully, Mrs. Jennie Brandhof of Mitchellville and Mrs. Cora Bishop of Des Moines.
Mr. Van Maanen was a member of the church of Christ at Vandalia.
The son of John and Antje Van Maanen, he was born Jan. 11, 1907 in Veenendaal, The Netherlands.
With his parents he came to the United States in 1916, residing near Otley and Prairie City.
He was married to Kathryn White of Prairie City Aug. 15, 1936.
