Levi M. Ruggless Brought Here for Burial Saturday
Levi McMailen, second son of James and Katherine Ruggless was born near Otley May 2, 1856 and departed this life in the Odd Fellows home in Mason City, Iowa on June 16, 1943.
On Nov. 29, 1886 he was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie M. Carnahan. Three children came to bless this union:
He was a member of the Prairie City Methodist church, having transferred his membership here from Reasnor in 1897. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, four brothers and a sister.
He is survived by a daughter, Bessie M. Long of Des Moines, a son Forest of Denver, Colo., one brother, J. R. of Prairie City and a half-brother E. J. Card of Des Moines, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services were held at Prairie City from the Travis Walters Funeral Home Saturday, June 19. Rev. C. P. Hughes, pastor of the local Methodist church being in charge.
Music was furnished by L. F. Vander Linden who sang a solo “A Perfect Day” and “Goin’ Home.” Mrs. Irma McFadden was at the piano.
Pallbearers were C. H. Calvert, Oscar Calvert, Orie Gilbert, Henry Hawkins, C. H. Phearman and Jesse Pender.
Interment was in the Vandalia cemetery, with services by the I.O.O.F, lodge.
