Services for Lloyd “Farmer” Bowers, 74, of Newton, who died of cardiac respiratory ailments at Mercy Laurel Center, were Wednesday at Bondurant Christian Church in Bondurant. Burial was in Vandalia Cemetery in Vandalia.
Mr. Bowers was born in Runnells and lived in Altoona most of his life before moving to Newton in 1982. He retired in 1978 as a railroad car man and was a member of Bondurant Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Emma; a daughter, Linda Kimball of Des Moines; three sons, Larry M. of Colorado Springs, CO, Fred L. Sr. of Urbandale and Command Sgt. Maj. Dennis R., stationed with the military in Hanau, West Germany; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Frederick of Mitchellville and Linda Buttrey of Pensacola, FL; two stepsons, Keith L. Battles of Agwan, MA, and Stanley Battles of Mesa, WA; a brother, George of Des Moines; 27 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
