Life Story of Margaret Smith
Margaret Alpha (English) Smith was born March 11, 1893 to Charles T. and Grace Wallace English in Marion County, Iowa. She grew to womanhood in vicinity of Prairie City, Iowa with the exception of 1 year in early childhood which was spent in Ava Missouri.
On February 14, 1915, she was united in marriage to Glenn A. Smith. Two sons were born to this union, an infant son born Sept. 9, 1916 to only live an hour; August 6, 1919, Melvin G. Smith was born. Together with her husband and son they lived south of Prairie City until 1940 when the family moved to near Indianola, Iowa. In 1953, she moved to Bondurant where she made her home until her death.
She was always so ready to help others; she gave of herself in time of trouble or joy. A willing helper in church, school or any place she was needed. Margaret was baptized with her Lord and Savior in the Methodist Church at Pleasant Hill. In her youth and always she was ready when her Master should call.
In 1947, her only grandchild, Charlotte (Smith) Deardorff was born, a never ending source of joy.
She passed away Sept. 22, 1966 at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 11 days. Preceded in death by her husband, infant son, father, mother and brother. Leaving to mourn her passing include her son, Melvin G. Smith and his wife Lois; a granddaughter, Mrs. Charlotte Deardorff and her husband Terry; a sister, Mrs. Mildred Enyart; an aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins and such a host of friends. Much could be said of this life, but to those who knew her, nothing needs to be said.
Funeral services were held in the Bondurant Christian Church, Sunday, Sept. 25, 1966, at 2:30 p.m. and burial in the Vandalia Cemetery conducted by the minister of the church, the Rev. Frank N. Gardner.
