Bert Van Maanen Dies at Hospital; Services Monday
Colfax – Bert Van Maanen, 71, of 405 E. State St., in Colfax, a longtime resident of Jasper County, died Friday at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Walters Funeral Home in Colfax.
The Rev. Neville G. Clayton, minister of the Colfax Christian Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in McKeever Cemetery near Colfax.
Mr. Van Maanen is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; three brothers, John of Fremont, William of Prairie City and Casey of Mitchellville; and three sisters, Mrs. Ella Beyer of Sully, Mrs. Jennie Brandhof of Mitchellville and Mrs. Cora Bishop of Des Moines.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. John Van Maanen he was born Jan. 25, 1890 in Veenendaal, The Netherlands.
Educated in The Netherlands, he came to the Prairie City community in 1913, later moving to the Washington Center community in 1920.
Mr. Van Maanen moved to Colfax in 1955.
