James C. Long, 74, Dies at Baxter; Services Tuesday
Baxter (Special) – James Carl Long, 74, a longtime resident of the Baxter community, died at 8 p.m. Friday at the home of his son, Virgil Long, in Baxter.
Death was attributed to a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Boyd-Nickell Funeral Home in Baxter. Burial will be in Kintz cemetery west of Baxter.
Mr. Long is survived by four sons, Virgil and George H. of Baxter, Lloyd G. of Lincoln, Neb., and James C. of Taunton, Mass.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The son of George and Phoebe Long, he was born Sept. 13, 1883 west of Baxter.
Educated in Baxter community rural schools, he was married in Newton in 1907 to Ossa Hardenburgh.
Mr. Long farmed in the Baxter area for many years, later working for the railroad and from 1942 until retiring in 1948 was employed at the Maytag company in Newton.
With the exception of one year, 1926, when he resided in Colorado, he spent his entire life in the Baxter community.
