Mrs. I. G. Pease Passed Away Tuesday Morning
Was Prominent And Active Woman of Poweshiek Township
Funeral services will be held from the home at 2:00 o’clock this (Thursday) afternoon for Mrs. I. G. Pease, who passed away at 2:30 Tuesday morning at her home north of the city. Rev. Vere H. Rogers will conduct the service and burial will be made at the McKeever cemetery.
Mrs. Pease has been admired by all those who knew her for the splendid and brave manner she has stood the pain and suffering especially since she knew she was afflicted with cancer and that she could not be cured. Although her family and friends did all in their power to make her comfortable the feeling that death is inevitable is hard to bear, though one is prepared as she was.
She has been active in all social and civic work in Poweshiek township where the Grange and Woman’s Club take a very active part. She was a good wife and mother, a good neighbor and a good friend, which after all is one of the finest tributes that can be paid to anyone and which is prompted by the history of her life.
Minnie Johnson was the daughter of James H. and Isabel Reed Johnson. She was born and lived her entire life in Jasper county. The mother died when she was quite young and the father survived the mother but eight years. As soon as able the two sisters and two brothers established a home of their own and it was broken by the marriage of the different members of the group.
At an early age she united with the Congregational brotherhood and in recent years placed her membership in the Methodist church of Colfax.
On January 9, 1894, she was united in marriage with I. G. Pease. Two sons, Reed and Clare, blessed this home, grew to manhood and established homes on adjoining farms. The husband, two sons, their wives and the “beloved little grandson”, Robert, are the surviving members of this home circle broken for the first time. One brother, Glen, died Nov. 17, 1906; the other members of the family are one brother. Charles Johnson of Redfield, Iowa, one sister, Mrs. Maud Lowry of Alliance, Nebr., the two nephews, five nieces and a number of cousins. She also leaves a host of friends.
Her courage and patience during her illness was little short of marvelous and when the last days came with no hope of relief she prayed for release which came to her so quietly and peacefully at two o’clock Tuesday morning, August 5th, 1924.
