Mrs. Griff Lewis of Oswalt Died Suddenly
Funeral Services Were Held Saturday Afternoon From M. E. Church
Mrs. Griff Lewis of the Oswalt neighborhood, passed away at her home Thursday after an illness of only a short time. While she had not been in the best of health for the past few years, her condition did not become serious until about twenty-four hours before her passing.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon from the Methodist church in Colfax with Rev. L. C. McDonald, pastor, officiating.
Florence Matilda Lewis, daughter of A. J. and Mary Jane Walker, was born July 3, 1870, at Oswalt, Iowa, and departed this life at her home northwest of Colfax, June 14, 1934, at the age of 63 years, 11 months and 11 days.
She was married January 27, 1891, to Griff Lewis, and to this union were born eleven children. Griffith and Russell having preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Griff Lewis, and two daughters, Mrs. Arnold Tobin of Farrar and Mrs. George Hill of Colfax, and seven sons, William, George, Harry, Alex and Daniel Lewis of Colfax, and Robert Lewis of Newton, and James Lewis of Des Moines; twenty-seven grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Belle Vaughn of Des Moines; two brothers, W. H. Walker of LaVerne, Oklahoma, and Robt. Walker of Colfax and a host of neighbors and friends.
She was a devoted mother and all will mourn her passing.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Earl Plummer, Mrs. Cleo Wall, John A. Davis and B. F. Van Dyke, with Miss Eleanor Howell accompanist.
Six sons acted as pall bearers.
Burial was had at the McKeever cemetery.
