Life Story of Charles Romick
Charles Landis Romick, son of Henrietta and William James Romick was born near Anita, Iowa January 6, 1876. His boyhood was spent in the vicinity of Anita where he also attended school and made many lifelong acquaintances.
He was baptized May 12, 1889, and entered the Methodist Episcopal church at Anita and at the time of his death was a member of the Pleasant Hill Methodist church.
On November 25, 1906, he was united in marriage to Verna O. Webb of Prairie City, who preceded him in death on December 30, 1939. The young couple spent the first year of their marriage on a claim near Nowlin, S. Dak. The remaining years of their married life were spent around Prairie City and surrounding communities.
To this union were born nine children, Don of Buffalo, N.Y., Chester of California, Arthur of Monroe, Mrs. J. A. Cole of Portland, Ore., Paul of Des Moines, Mrs. Lester Elrod of Prairie City, Raymond of Ankeny, Mrs. Howard DeHaai of Monroe and Tom of Knoxville.
He is survived by nine children, 25 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, one brother, H. R. Romick of Mendata, Ill., and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were April 11 at the Pleasant Hill Methodist church with the Rev. John Darlington officiating and the Rev. Edward Zook, pastor of the Church of the Brethren, assisting. Burial was in Griffith cemetery.
