Dorothy Viola Bos-Blood-Smith, of Pleasantville, Iowa, entered into eternal rest in her home on August 27, 2021, with her family by her side. Dorothy was born at home near Swan Iowa to Henry and Marie Bos on April 12, 1925. She married Ivol L Blood on January 26, 1946. They made their home near Ivy, IA, where they raised two boys and two girls in a one-bedroom home. In the early 60's the family unit built a three-bedroom home, which remains in the family yet today.

Dorothy's career began with her brother-n-law, finishing wood on remodeling projects. She spent most of her career at Southeast Polk High School as a cook. She resigned from Southeast Polk High School in 1977 to care for her ailing husband, Ivol Blood, until his death in 1978. On August 10, 1983 she married Mervin Smith and lived on a farm near Runnells, until his death in 2007. Upon his death, Dorothy moved to Pleasantville, IA . There she took pride in working her gardens and flower beds that surrounded her home. She enjoyed visiting local casinos with family and friends. During the week, you could find her almost every day at the Runnells Senior Center playing cards. Weekends were reserved for serving her infamous beef & noodles and baked macaroni & cheese to her extended family.

She is survived by: [Children] Larry Blood (Cheryl) of Mitchellville, Linda Shumate of Des Moines, and Janice Dabb (Galen) of Swan [Brothers] Leon Bos (Alda) of Runnells and Kenneth Bos of Colfax : 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins. Dorothy was preceded in death by: husbands, [son] Mervin Lee Blood, [brothers] Jayelle & Doyle Bos, [sisters] Shirley Herbert, Gladys McConnell, & Mercedes Lane, [parents] Henry & Marie Bos.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 10:00 am at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Burial will follow at Lowman Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm also at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Memorials may be given to the Runnells Senior Center and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com
