Chas. McQuiston Died Thursday July 10
Charles Harrison McQuiston, 74, former Colfax carpenter and contractor, died Thursday morning at 6:15 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Mr. McQuiston had been in failing health for several years, and death was attributed to an advanced stage of tuberculosis and complications.
Mr. McQuiston was born at Esbon, Kansas, Jan. 31, 1884, the son of Martin and Ellen McQuiston, and had been a resident of this city fifty years. He was united in marriage to Mildred Owens at Lucas, Kansas May 17, 1905. Mr. McQuiston followed his chosen profession as a carpenter and contractor in this city for several years. He also served as a member of the city council for two terms, was a member of the Od Fellow Lodge and served as a volunteer fireman on the fire department.
Survivors include his wife, three sisters, Mrs. C. S. Sharp of Yakima, Wash., Mrs. M. A. Binkerd of Colfax, Mrs. O. E. Goodman of Colfax, three brothers, Ernest of Delta, Colo., William of Cedar Rapids and Nick of Yakima, Wash., plus a host of friends made during his years as a resident of this city.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. from the Bumgardner Funeral home in Colfax with Rev. E. H. Jackson, pastor of the Methodist church officiating.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Leo Schmitt.
Bearers were Gus DeCamp, Paul Jones, Ray Peterson, John Mickle, Carl Janney and C. L. Aikin.
Flower committee were Mrs. John Mickle and Mrs. Edward Ward.
Burial was in the McKeever cemetery north of Colfax.
