APRIL 8, 1936 – MAY 19, 2021

Carole L. Gattenby, age 85, of Olathe, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 19, 2021. A visitation to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. with services immediately following in the McGilley & Fry Funeral Home in Olathe with interment in the Olathe Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Carole was born April 8, 1936, to Clifford and Leona Shaffer, in Lynnville, IA. At age 8, she moved to Newton, Iowa. In 1952, she began her career working for United Telephone Company as a telephone operator. While in Newton, Carole was a member of the Foursquare Church where she was the Sunday school secretary, taught a Sunday school class, led a youth group and sang in the choir. After several promotions in Iowa, she was promoted to the Midwest Group Headquarters in Overland Park, KS as Commercial Advisor to the cashiers in several states. The name of the company was changed to Sprint and with 44 years of service, Carole retired in 1998. In Olathe, she attended Olathe Wesleyan Church. She was kind, generous and witty. She loved reading, watching sports, completing puzzles and crosswords, but most of all spending time with her family.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents, husband Keith Gattenby, daughter Linda K Borchert, son-in-law Steve Borchert, son Randal Dammeier, brothers Jack C Shaffer, Gene W Shaffer, Glen L Shaffer and Dale V Shaffer, two sisters-in-law Joy Shaffer and Myrna Shaffer.

She is survived by her loving daughter Kimberly (Joe) McKnight of Olathe, KS; grandchildren Jeff Borchert of Houston, TX, James Borchert (Erin) of Richman Hill, GA, Jason Borchert (Jennifer) of Pasadena, TX, Jeremy Borchert of Boulder, CO, Dr. Rob McKnight (Rebecca) of Nashville, TN, Laura McKnight Young (Josh) of Houston, TX and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters Myrna (Mike) Norton of Cisco, TX and Mary Jo Blanset whose husband Bill is deceased of Dickson, TN.

Carole will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
