Clear Creek – George Long was born in Winneshiek county, Iowa, April 3, 1854. He came to Jasper county Iowa with his parents in 1867 and located near Clyde. He resided in this community until his death Dec. 29, 1922 after a brief illness, aged 68 years 9 months.
In Dec. 1876 he was united in marriage to Phoebe Miller of Clear Creek Twp. Nine children were born to this union, five dying in infancy and four with the wife and mother survive. They are Clarence who lives on a farm near home; Pearl, Mrs. Guy Hardenberg of Baxter; Mrs. Lillian Tramel of Ira and James at home. There are four brothers, John, Frank, Will and Albert several half brothers and sisters, 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Long united with the M. P. Church at Oak Grove and was a faithful member many years. He was a kind, industrious man, who loved his home, his family and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Abe Kern of Collins at the Oak Grove church Sunday afternoon. A Baxter quartette with Mrs. Ed Goodwin at the organ sang. Interment was at Kintz cemetery beside his children. His brother John of Marshalltown and Herbert of De Moines were from a distance.

George Long Who Died December 29, Buried in Kintz Cemetery, Sunday
Collins, Ia., Jan 4 (Special to The Daily News)– Funeral services were held for George Long at the Oak Grove church Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock by Rev. Abe Kern of Collins.
A quartette from Baxter, with Mrs. Ed Goodwin at the piano, sang old favorite hymns which were loved by Mr. Long. Burial was made in the Kintz cemetery beside his children. His brother John, of Marshalltown, and Albert, of Des Moines, and many from nearby towns attended the services.
George Long was born in Winneshiek county, Iowa, April 3, 1854. He came to Jasper county, Iowa with his parents in 1867, and has been a resident of this section since.
He passed away at his home Friday December 29. He had been afflicted with asthma many years but was ill only a few hours, and his death was a shock to friends who did not know of his illness.
In December 1876 he was united in marriage to Phoebe Miller, a granddaughter of Joseph Kintz, the first settler in Clear Creek township. To this union nine children were born. Five died in infancy and four children besides the widow survive.
They are: Clarence who lives near them on a farm, Pearl Hardenberg, of Baxter, Lily Tramel, of Ira, Iowa, and James who lives at home. 15 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, four brothers, John, Frank, Will and Albert; also several half-brothers and half-sisters.
Mr. Long was a member of the Methodist Protestant church for many years. He was a kind, industrious man, who loved his family and friends. When their father lost his wife, Mr. and Mrs. ___ him care for his ____ little boys.
