August 8, 1929 - July 24, 2021Barbara Jean Hoover, age 91, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2021, at the Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, on August 16, 2021 at the Mitchellville Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Mitchellville Community Center.
Barbara was born on August 8, 1929 in Melcher, Iowa to Pearl and Thomas Barbour. Barbara is survived by her brother, William Barbour, her daughter Lori Wright (Greg), son Dale Hoover (Nedra), four grandchildren, one new great grandson, and five great grandchildren through marriage.
Preceding her in death are her husband Earl Wayne Hoover, her mother and father, and three brothers Thomas, George, and Jack.
Barbara was married to Wayne on October 15, 1950, and spent her early professional life working at Employers Mutual Insurance in Des Moines. She left her career to care for their home and children in Mitchellville, then returned to the workforce at the age of 58 after the death of her husband. She worked as an elementary school custodian, a daycare worker, a caregiver to her elderly aunt, and then as an assistant and model for various Better Homes and Gardens and other magazine and book publications. She continued to work as a production assistant and recipe tester until the age of 86.
Barbara was a very kind and generous person with a cheery and positive attitude. She loved to decorate her home and took pride in keeping things tidy. She was well known for her baking and frequent sharing of her cookies and other baked goods with her friends and family.
