Died – At Valeria, Iowa, on Saturday, April 19, 1890, of peritonitis, Mary, daughter of W. P. Lacey, aged 12 months and 6 days.
Mary Josie Belle Lacey was born in Poweshiek township, Jasper county, Iowa, where she resided up to the time of her death. She was a great but patient sufferer for four weeks before death came to bear her little form to that bright world beyond. Mary was always thoughtful for the comfort of others rather than herself. She was a bright, active child, beloved by all who knew her. She was a regular attendant at Sunday school, and the great sorrow of her classmates was made manifest by the tears they shed over the fair sleeper as she lay in her casket.
For this dear girl a new day has dawned. She has found a brighter, better world than ours. She leaves a fond father, two sisters and many friends to mourn her loss. The funeral services were from the Methodist church in Valeria, last Sunday, Rev. Anderson conducting the services, assisted by Rev. Carr. The remains were followed to Sams’ cemetery by a large concourse of relatives and friends, and she was laid to rest beside her mother, who died three years since.
