Sarah E. Barker was born on the 16th day of August, 1835, and 13 years later came with her parents to Iowa. In 1851, she was united by marriage with John Coe, who in 1863 enlisted in the union army and died in the south. The fruits of this union were three children, one of whom, Milton B., is living in Oklahoma, and another named West near Boone in this state. In 1865, she was again married to Wm. Foy, who died in this place in 1883 leaving her their two children, Samuel E., of Valley Junction, and Ella Foy-Young deceased. In 1893 she was again married to Z. K. French, who survives her.
She was converted when 16 years of age, and has been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for 61 years. Her death took place on May 14, 1912, at the home of her sister, Mrs. John Sperling, in Valeria. Her fatal malady was a lingering disease. She leaves, besides those above mentioned, two sisters, a brother and 19 grandchildren. The obsequies were on Thursday from the Valeria M.E. church, Rev. Williams of Mingo preaching the sermon, and the interment was at McKeever cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Boyd, Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Williams and family, Mrs. M. E. Richey, of Colfax; Mrs. McHose and Mrs. Whitney, both of Maxwell; her son, Samuel Foy, and three grandchildren (Young’s) from Valley Junction, were the only out-of-town relatives in attendance at the funeral.
