Solomon Dickey was born March 30, 1828, in Athens county, Ohio, died, at the home of his daughter Mrs. J. R. Buckley, at Des Moines, Iowa, January 6, 1905, at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 7 days.
Deceased was one of the pioneers of Iowa, removing from Ohio to this state and settling near the present site of Mingo, Jasper County, in June 1854. He has seen the state transformed from a veritable wilderness to one of the first states in the Union. He was a man of the most sterling integrity, honored, and respected by all who knew him. In June, 1854, he united with what is now the Mingo M.E. church, of which he remained a faithful member until he was called home.
September 12, 1854, Mr. Dickey and Rebecca Barker were joined in wedlock, and commenced life upon the new farm, upon which they resided until 1897, when they moved to Mingo, where Mrs. Dickey died May 25, 1902. Nine children were born to them, seven of whom survive.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Knoll, were held at the M.E. church, in Mingo, January 8th, at ten o’clock, after which the body was laid to rest in the McKeever cemetery.
