Clear Creek – Funeral services for E. H. Smith, former resident of the Union Chapel neighborhood but later a resident of Ames, who died June 9, were held at Union Chapel Sunday afternoon, June 15 with interment at the adjoining cemetery.

Ira News – Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Union Chapel for E. H. Smith, age 73, of Ames, a former resident of Ira and a member of the Ira Christian Church. He left to mourn his passing his wife, a daughter, Miss Lela Smith of Washington, D.C., one brother, Aubrey of Marshalltown and nephews.
Rev. Henry Esch of Collins was in charge of the services. Mrs. Fred Esch accompanied Mr. and Mrs. James Lowry, Joan Lowry and Robert Matthews on the piano as they sang “Beautiful Garden of Prayer” and “Face To Face.” Pallbearers were W. J. Lowry, Fred Esch, Finley Battles, Floyd Whitehead, Howard Tramel and Orlo Southern. Mrs. W. J. Lowry, Mrs. Lloyd DeReus and Florence McIntire had charge of the flowers.
Burial was in the Union Chapel cemetery. Friends from Baxter, Mingo, Ira, Newton and Colfax were in attendance.

Final Rites For E. H. Smith, Sunday
Final rites for Ernie H. Smith, 70, who died June 9th at Ames, were held Friday afternoon at Ames. Due to the unusual weather and high water, services at Union chapel were not held until Sunday afternoon. Rev. Henry Esch had charge of the services at Union Chapel and burial was had at Union Chapel cemetery.
Mr. Smith, a former Jasper county resident, was well known by the older residents. Besides his wife and daughter he is survived by two nephews at Colfax, Ivan and Thor Nicodemus.
