Taken In Childhood
When a child not quite five years old, in the time of innocence, when life seemed but a beautiful place to play in, when he was a king where the subjects were willing slaves, where his horizon in all directions was bounded with love – at such a time the Saviour called the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Eyerly, of Newton, to his home “beyond the blue,” where sin will never enter, where ideals will never be shattered, where hopes will go on without break to their perfect fulfillment. This well with the child, though with sorrow to those whom he left behind.
Ralph Emerson Eyerly would have been five years old in May. He was a bright, winning child. About two weeks ago, he was taken ill and for several days before his death the result was feared. The little fellow suffered intensely and welcome release came with death at one o’clock last Thursday night. The funeral was held Saturday morning, at 9 o’clock. It was conducted in a very simple, quiet way, only a few relatives and friends being present. Rev. Baumgardner was in charge, and the service consisted of a prayer and a few words of comfort. The tiny form was laid away in our “City on the hill,” north of town.
