H. L. Moffitt of Metz Dies
H. L. Moffitt of Metz, pioneer of this county died at his home Thursday evening, Feb. 20th. His death was due to apoplexy which he was taken ill with the day before. Until this time he had been in very good health.
Mr. Moffitt was 84 years of age and had spent his entire life, since a lad in this county. He was one of the first members of an Iowa Grange and a member of the second Grange to be organized in the United States. Mr. Moffitt was a Civil war veteran enlisting with the Twenty-eighth Iowa Infantry. He was well known throughout the county and friends will learn with sorrow of his death.
Mrs. Moffitt preceded him in death about a year ago. He leaves his children, Curtis, Hugh, Lewis Moffitt, Mrs. C. E. Gist and Mrs. Julian Kating; one son Horace, dying some years ago. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon.
