Robert "Bob" Gene Yeutsy
February 11, 1930 ~ May 26, 2021 (age 91)

Robert “Bob” Gene Yeutsy, 91, of Des Moines, formerly of Newton, died on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at the Iowa Jewish Life Center in Des Moines. A celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m., Sunday June 27, 2021, at the West Shelter House in Maytag Park. Memorials to be used for a donation in Bob’s name may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home or at the celebration of life (checks payable to Kim Stivers).

Bob, the son of Donald and Ruth (Toye) Yeutsy, was born on February 11, 1930, in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1948. Bob was united in marriage with Phyllis Dickerson on August 5, 1949, at the First Christian Church in Newton. Over their 71 years of marriage they would do everything together.

Bob worked for the Maytag Company for over 42 years. He started on the assembly line and then moved to Tool and Die. In 1970, he moved into the office as a Job Analyst, before retiring in 1990 as a Sr. Job Analyst. During his time at Maytag, he also took care of the family apple orchard. Bob spent countless hours taking care of the apple trees, polishing apples, and selling them at Farmer’s Markets, to Hy-Vee, and to people who would stop and knock on his door. Bob loved to eat the apples he raised and the term “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” definitely applied to him. Bob also liked vegetable gardening, taking care of his yard, and he loved to fish. Bob and Phyllis enjoyed playing cards with friends and neighbors. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Maytag Management Club. In 2016, Bob and Phyllis moved to Des Moines. Bob was a true gentleman, always polite and soft spoken. He was a man of few words but had some great one-liners. He will be loved by all and will truly be missed.

Bob is survived by his wife, Phyllis Yeutsy of Des Moines; two children, Dave (Connie) Yeutsy of Coralville and Kim Stivers of Clive; grandson, Evan Yeutsy of Iowa City; and his sisters-in-law, Donna Yeutsy of Seattle, Washington and Sharla Yeutsy of Waukee. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Kevin Stivers; and two brothers, Doyle and Ken Yeutsy.

They Yeutsy family would like to thank everyone at the Iowa Jewish Life Center for the excellent care that Bob received there the last two years.
