Mrs. Sarah Jane Keys Called
Sarah Jane Bond was born near Schenectady, N.Y. on February 21st, 1841 and died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Decker of Colfax, May 25th, 1924. Her age at death was 83 years, 3 months and 4 days.
She was the eldest daughter of William Bond and came from a long line of sturdy New England Stock. Her mother died during the childhood of the deceased and her father married Melissa Boynton. Mrs. Kees knew no other mother and was very greatly attached to her step-mother who passed to her reward nine years ago. The family removed to Wisconsin and there she was united in marriage with George Kees who preceded her in death twenty-one years ago. Shortly after their marriage they migrated to Iowa and settled in Jasper county. Mrs. Kees was surrounded by a great host of friends by whom she was realty respected and beloved. She never forgot her old friends and rejoiced to meet them at all times.
She was a quiet and devoted Christian woman; she was conscious of God’s presence in this life and often spoke of the life beyond the grave as a life of rest and joy. She was a careful student of the Bible and clung very closely to it during her last illness. For several years her health has failed and she passed to the great Beyond on Sunday afternoon at 5:30 o’clock.
She leaves to mourn her death, one half-brother, Samuel Bond in California and two half-sisters, Mrs. Kooser in Oregon and Mrs. Charles Decker of Colfax. There is also a large circle of other relatives bereft by her passing, including her nephew, Dick Bond and family of Colfax and Glenn Decker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Decker, at whose home Mrs. Kees passed away.
The funeral was held at the home of Mrs. Decker in Colfax on Tuesday afternoon, May 27th by the Rev. F. J. Neal of the M. F. Church. The services both at the house and at the Rorabaugh cemetery were very largely attended and bore tribute to the love and esteem in which this good lady was held by all who knew her. Her remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband in the family lot at the Rorabaugh cemetery.
