Larry D. Vander Werff, 63, of Newton died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at his home.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Community Reformed Church in Newton with the Rev. Eric Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name and may be left at the funeral home or at the church the day of the service.

The son of Alfred and La Vina (Klein) Vander Werff, he was born April 23, 1941, in Oskaloosa. He graduated from Pella High School in 1959. He served in the U.S. Air National Guard. On April 12, 1962, he married Norma Hiemstra in Pella. He was a farmer and also worked for Coast to Coast and for Diamond Vogel during the past five years. He was a past Jasper County Supervisor, past president of the Jasper County Farm Bureau, active in the Jasper County Democratic Party and the Newton Elks. He farmed by Reasnor until 1974 and then farmed north of Pella from 1974 to 1990, when he moved to Newton.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters and sons-in-law, Karla and Craig Boot of Sully, Krista and Kent Long of De Witt, Kathy Vander Werff of Syracuse, N.Y., and Kelly Vander Werff of North Liberty; three grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Mary Vander Werff of Pella.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
