Mrs. Francisco, Resident Here, Dies Early Today
Mrs. Emily C. Smith Francisco, 83, well-known resident of Newton and Jasper county, died early this morning at Skiff Memorial hospital from the infirmities of old age. She was hospitalized two weeks.
Mrs. Francisco was the widow of Charles B. Francisco who was a former Jasper county auditor and Newton city councilman. Mr. Francisco, who died in 1947, was a real estate and insurance agent here and published a newspaper at Baxter until moving here in 1900.
Mrs. Francisco was born Set. 2, 1868, on a Jasper county farm five miles southwest of Lynnville. On Nov. 28, 1892, she was married to Charles B. Francisco near Sully.
The couple moved at once to Baxter where he published the Baxter news and later the Baxter new Era. In the early 1900’s they lived three years in Canada then moved to Des Moines where they lived for nine years.
The Franciscos moved to Newton in Sept., 1918, and Mrs. Francisco lived here ever since. Her address was 218 East Second street North. She was a member of the Methodist church, the Order of Eastern Star and The Daily News Three-Quarter Century club.
Funeral services are tentatively set for Saturday afternoon at two o’clock. Morgan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
