Florence Eileen Quick, 85, of North English and formerly of Kellogg, died Thursday, April 1, 2021, at English Valley Care Center in North English.
The Quick family are requesting a private family burial at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg.
Memorial contributions may be designated to the Kellogg Volunteer Fire Department or Essence of Life Hospice and may be sent in c/o Smith Funeral Home, 1103 Broad St., Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
Florence was born April 11, 1935, in Chariton, the daughter of Thomas and Evelyn Abrahamson McCormick. She grew up in Melcher and attended a country school near her home and later Melcher High School.
On Sept. 5, 1954, she was united in marriage with Ralph Henry Quick in Melcher. The couple lived in the Melcher-Dallas area and moved to their family farm near Kellogg in 1968. Florence helped on the farm while raising five children and later in life she was employed at several businesses’ including DeLong’s Sportswear in Grinnell, the Maytag Company, Maytag Blue Cheese and Cox Greenhouse in Newton.
Florence moved to Courtyard Estates Memory Care Facility in Bondurant in 2020, then to English Valley Care Center in January of 2021.
Family time was important to Florence. She loved the many special times spent together for birthdays, holidays and grandkids stopping by the farm. She enjoyed many crafts, including scrapbooking, gardening and canning her produce. She was the family historian, a 4-H leader and held a strong faith.
Florence is survived by her five children, David Quick of Pensacola, Fla., Diane Finch of Kellogg, Denise (Mike) Flanagan of Bondurant, Karen (Scott) Kottke of Ankeny and Connie (Joe) Kuddes of Williamsburg; two brothers, Dwaine and Dwight McCormick; three sisters, Marilyn Jackson, Edith Hardie and Kathy Conrow; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph in 2017; three sisters, Harriett McCormick, Alice Cook and Linda Marshall; and one granddaughter, Shannon Kottke.
