Randall Clark Mikesell Jr., 41, died in Newton, Monday, March 30, 2021. He was born Dec. 30, 1979, in Newton. to Randall Clark and Melissa Dee (Wilcox) Mikesell, Sr.
Randy received his education in Newton, remaining in central Iowa working different jobs. Never afraid of hard labor, his work varied from construction to management at the Salvation Army Store on S.E. 14th Street in Des Moines.
Randall’s weakness was women. He was a kid at heart, that’s why all the nieces and nephews adored him — partners in crime if “Uncle Wendy” or “Uncle Fandy” was leading the parade. His adult past times included fishing, music, photo bombing and mushroom hunting. (No! We won’t divulge his favorite spots!) Randy had a heart of gold and was more than willing to give the shirt off of his back to anyone in need.
Survivors include mother and father, Melissa and Ron McConnell; grandmother, Lois Hildenbrand; son, Nicholas Mikesell; sister, Alisha Johnston; brothers, Nate and wife Chelsie McConnell (and family), Lance and wife Kris McConnell (and family) and Ronnie McConnell (and family); as well as many other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his twin sons, Ethan and Evan Mikesell; and father, Randall Clark Mikesell, Sr.
Randy’s family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 8 at Dunn’s Chapel, 2121 Grand Ave., Des Moines, Iowa 50312. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Dunn’s. Burial at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, will follow the service. Reception to follow.
A memorial fund has been established by the family. The McConnell family lost a brother, son and uncle unexpectedly March 30. Due to the sudden loss of Randy, we are asking for help to cover final expenses to bring some peace of mind to the family during this most difficult time. This donation link can be found by the following gofund.me/5f454397.
Randy’s funeral service will be live-streamed beginning just before 2 p.m. Friday, April 9 from Dunn’s Chapel. A link will be shared on his obituary from the Iles Funeral Homes website at ilescares.com.
