Judith Ann Weston Guthrie, 89, of Buena Park, Calif., passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday, March 4, 2021.

Judy was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Newton, to Roy and Wreatha (Gray) Weston. After graduating from Newton High School she left for California to marry her high school sweetheart, Gerald (Jerry) Guthrie. Judy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving as organist/pianist, teacher, leader in the women’s and children’s organizations. She taught piano for more than 60 years, taught guitar, and tutored music theory to college students. She also earned a music degree at Cal State Long Beach.

Judy is survived by her six children, Leah, Randy, Holly, Jason, Amy and Rachel; 24 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death in 2005.

Judy will be remembered for her kindness, never turning down an opportunity to help others, her homemade jams and baked bread, her sense of humor and her musical talent. She will be laid to rest next to her husband April 22 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, Calif. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News 15 April 2021.
