IOWA CITY — Patricia Ann Gause, 74, of Iowa City, formerly of Jasper County, died after a lengthy illness Monday, June 6, 2005, at her daughter's home in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Rev. Mark Gause officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City are in charge of services.

Following services, there will be a luncheon at Faith United Church of Christ in Iowa City. Red hats or attire are encouraged. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice, Camp Courageous, Special Olympics, Faith United Church of Christ or the American Cancer Society.

The daughter of Charlie and Bertha (Saunders) Pietersma, she was born Feb. 18, 1931, in Lynnville. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1949. She married David Eugene Gause on Aug. 19, 1950, in Lynnville.

She worked for UIHC, Alden's department store and ACT. She also worked on a temporary or seasonal part-time basis for Iowa Book and Supply and Hal's Gifts and Cards.

Mrs. Gause was a charter member of Faith United Church of Christ and, in the early years, was very involved in church activities, assisting in building the current facility, going door-to-door inviting neighbors to visit the church, serving on several committees including church council, being active in fundraising and teaching Sunday school. She was active for many years in Project Green (including hosting their home on the Garden Tour), Embroidery Guild, the Hosta Society, Garden Club and the Red Hat Society.

She enjoyed her hosta gardens (owning more than 800 named hostas), arts and craft projects, flower gardens. She also had many of her P. Buckley Moss needlepoint pieces on display around Iowa City over the years, including current displays at Hills Bank and Trust Company on Muscatine Avenue in Iowa City.

Survivors include one son, Paul Gause of Iowa City; two daughters, Debra (Gordon) Borgstahl of Iowa City, and Leah (Mike) Howk of Bloomfield; two grandsons; one step-grandson; one great-granddaughter; two step-great-granddaughters; and two step-great-grandsons.

Her parents and her husband preceded her in death.
