Lloyd C. Dodd, 77, of 805 S. 14th Ave. W., formerly of 221 W. 62nd St. N., died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Newton.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Loren E. and Sarah G. (Campbell) Dodd, he was born Nov. 1, 1927, in Colfax, where he lived for 25 years before moving to Newton, where he resided for the past 52 years. On Sept. 19, 1948, he married Peggy C. Pherigo in Newton.

Mr. Dodd served in the U.S. Navy and also served for five years in the Army National Guard. He worked for the Maytag Company for 30 years, retiring in 1978 as a sheet metal foreman. He coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball and also served as an umpire for Little League, Babe Ruth and other baseball and softball leagues. He enjoyed all sports, especially those in which his grandchildren were participating, along with car racing, farming, farm animals and working.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy of Newton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Shelley Dodd and David M. and Liz Dodd, all of Newton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah and David Blackett, Sharon and Howard Neef and Sheena and Troy Pritchard, all of Newton; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank of Canton, Texas; and a sister, Twyla Versteegh of Searsboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Virginia Fenn; and four brothers, Willis, Collin, Joseph and Harlan.
