WEBB CITY, Mo. — Iris Mae Denison, 78, of Webb City, Mo., formerly of Newton, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at a nursing home in Webb City.

No services are planned at this time. The body has been cremated. Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City, Mo., is handling arrangements.

The daughter of Elgia Edwin Meade and Lena Rachel (Combs) Meade, she was born Aug. 22, 1926, in Redfield, Iowa. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1944 and while she was still in high school, she started worked as a telephone operator for Newton Telephone Company. She moved to Carthage, Mo., and worked for Whislers Hamburgers for 25 years.

Survivors include six children, Norman Buckallew of Florien, La., David Buckallew of Virginia, Michele Brooks of Salisbury, Mo., Craig Buckallew of St. Louis, Mo., Robin Denison of Carterville, Mo., and Wade Denison of Avilla, Mo.; several grandchildren and step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; four sisters, Ann Green of Des Moines, Francis Warren of Monroe, Kathy Cannady of Coburg, Ore., Betty Jean Simpson of Churubusco, Ind.; and one brother, Ed Meade of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Denison, her parents, three siblings and one grandchild.
