Everett W. Castings, 82, of Newton died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Newton with the Rev. Cathleen Bascom officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Newton.

Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church or to Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home the morning of the service.

The son of Jesse H. and Mary (Pirnot) Castings, he was born Oct. 21, 1922, in Waukee. He graduated from Williamson High School in Williamson and had lived in Jasper County since 1946, living in Reasnor and Newton for most of that time. He served in the U.S. Army Corps during World War II, and on Sept. 4, 1944, he married Marion W. Yeomans in Manchester, Lancashire, England.

Mr. Castings was an accountant for the Maytag Company for 41 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, the VFW Post 1655 and the American Legion Post 111.

Survivors include his wife, Marion; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Sheryl Castings of West Des Moines and Mike and Laura Castings of Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Robert Uhlig of Boalsburg, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Castings of Albia; a sister, Lucille Caughey of Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Daniel; and a brother, Albert Castings.
