Wilma H. Carson, 80, of USA Healthcare — Newton died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at the care facility.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Newton Christian Reformed Church with the Rev. Jack Gray, pastor of Sully Christian Reformed Church, officiating. Burial will be at Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Visitation with the family will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted in her name or to the Newton Christian Reformed Church.

The daughter of Arie and Jennie Elizabeth (Baarda) Lanser, she was born Dec. 28, 1924, in Jasper County. She attended country schools. On June 3, 1942, she married George Carson in Champaign, Ill. She was a homemaker and worked as a cook for Newton schools for four years. She also was a member of Newton Christian Reformed Church and enjoyed flowers and gardening.

Survivors include two daughters, Marie (Robert) Toms of Albia and Linda Young of Lost Nation; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Louis (Mildred) Lanser and Dean (Helen) Lanser, all of Newton; a sister-in-law, Neva Lanser of Sully; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Harry Lanser.
