Doris E. Bussey, 83, of 1008 S. Seventh Ave. W. died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Merle Smith, chaplain of Skiff Medical Center, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in her name to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society.

The daughter of Fredrick Bussey and Eda Mae (Blankenship) Bussey, she was born Oct. 3, 1921, in Grinnell. She was a 1939 graduate of Newton Senior High School and was valedictorian. She worked at Parsons, Winpower Manufacturing and in the main office of the Maytag Company. She was a member of TTT and enjoyed donating and volunteering at the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society. She also enjoyed book clubs and the alumni newsletter.

Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Jack Streeter of Newton; and a niece, great-niece and great-nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
