Arthur A. Burks, 64, of Newton died Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at his home.

Graveside services will be held Friday at Newton Union Cemetery at 11 a.m. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

The family will greet friends immediately following the graveside service at the cemetery. Memorials will be accepted in his name and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Arthur E. and Dorothy Ann (Wilson) Burks, he was born May 9, 1941, in Tuscumbia, Mo. On Oct. 31, 1981, he married Judy Layman in Newton. He was a self-employed handyman.

He is survived by a stepson, David (Roxanne) Altemeier of Iowa City; two step-daughters, Terri (Allen) Ward of Boone and Robin (John) Valentine of Monticello, Ind.; eight step-grandchildren; a sister, Dixie Barnhart of Kansas City, Mo.; and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
