OSKALOOSA -- John "Jack" Edward Zickmund III, 50, of Oskaloosa, formerly of Jasper County, died of heart failure Thursday, Jan. 8, in Oskaloosa.

No services are planned. His body was cremated. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Memorials will be accepted in his name.

The son of John Edward Zickmund II and Mary Loretta Davis, he was born June 15, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas. He was a graduate of Purdue University. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. On Oct. 10, 2000, he married Paula Prendergast in Gulf Breeze, Fla. He was a computer engineer and a volunteer for Mahaska Count Kids Safe.

Survivors include his wife of Newton; a son, Andrew Zickmund of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Linda Escott of Kansas City, Kan.; and two brothers, Joseph Zickmund of Denver, Pa., and James Zickmund of Las Vegas, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
