BAXTER -- Dale E. Wastier, 77, of Baxter died Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ. Private family burial will follow services at the Restland Cemetery in Baxter. Boyd Davis Funeral Home in Baxter is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the church, where the family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ or Kidney Care in Newton.

The son of Rupert and Myrtle (Berry) Wastier, he was born Oct. 12, 1926, in Baxter. He was raised and educated in Baxter, where he graduated from Baxter High School in 1944. On Aug. 10, 1947, he married DoLores Stinson in Baxter. Following their marriage, they made their home in Baxter, where they owned and operated the Baxter Mercantile for 23 years. He served as a distributor for the McKee Baking Company for 22 years before retiring in 1991.

During his retirement, Mr. Wastier worked for Rock Communications in Newton and the Nevada Monument Company. He was a lifelong member of Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ and held various offices. He served on the Baxter town council. He enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting, but the highlight of his life was his family.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Daryld Karloff of Pleasant Hill and Cathie Conway and Joel Colwell of Ankeny; four grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Rollo and Linda Wastier of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
