R. Elaine (Link) Betson
March 31, 1935 ~ February 24, 2021 (age 85)

Ruth Elaine Betson, 85, of Monroe died on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at Comfort House in Pella. A private family service will be held. Memorials in Elaine’s name (checks made payable to Ella Oswalt) may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Elaine, the daughter of Harold Franklin and Mamie Murl (Pickett) Link, was born on March 31, 1935 in Unionville, Missouri. She grew up in Unionville and later in Newton, where she graduated from high school in 1953.

Elaine was united in marriage with Max “Toby” Betson on September 29, 1956 in Mystic. In April of 1957, Toby and Elaine moved to Des Moines where they lived for 35 years. Elaine worked at Mercy Hospital in Linen Services for 18 years, retiring in 1990. In 1991, they moved to Monroe. Elaine enjoyed scrapbooking, flower gardening, taking care of her husband, crocheting, needlework, and sewing.

Elaine is survived by her sister, Ella Oswalt of Newton; nieces and nephews, Dean Oswalt of Des Moines, Carla Stanzyk of Colfax, David (Barb) Oswalt of Newton, Nancy (Mike) Griffith of Newton, John Oswalt of Oskaloosa, Debbie (Paul) Wallace of Knoxville, Matt (Diana) Oswalt of Newton, Dan (Amber) Oswalt of Newton, Jim Oswalt of Des Moines, Sarah (Aaron) Shera of Pleasantville, Mary (Marvin) Shaw of Baxter, and Richie Cairns of Centerville; 38 great nieces and nephews; and 25 great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Ernest Griggs; husband, Max “Toby” Betson; and two nephews, Mark Oswalt and Gary Oswalt.
