Maude Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Cora Williams was born in Downing, Wisconsin, October 7, 1890, and departed this life at her home near Vandalia, Iowa march 31, 1935, at the early age of forty-four years, five months, and twenty-four days. At an early age she with her parents came to Iowa to make their home, settling in Des Moines, where they spent a number of years. She later coming to Vandalia, Iowa, where she was united in marriage. To this union one daughter, Harriet was born, who has been with her during her illness. When but a girl of fourteen years of age she confessed her faith in the Savior, uniting with the Church of Christ to which she gave of her time and services willingly, ever trusting in Him, who gave His life that we might live.
In the year 1934 she became an active member of the Open Bible church of Vandalia where she was a faithful attendant until her health failed, serving as teacher in the Sunday School, Bible Class and Young People’s meeting. In the church she was a faithful and devoted worker, in the home she was loving and kind, as a friend she was self-sacrificing, ever willing to minister to those in need, even beyond her own physical strength. In the year 1924 she was united in wedlock to C. C. Gulling, to which union one daughter, Dorothy Alberta, came to bless their home.
On February 3 of this year she became seriously ill, and all was done that loving hands could do, with the hope her health might be benefited, but to no avail, her body being too weak to withstand the ravages of disease.
Besides her husband and two daughters, Dorothy Alberta and Mrs. Albert Harmison of Vandalia, Iowa, she leaves to mourn her loss, her parents, four grandchildren, one brother, Russell Williams of Two Harbors, Minn., another brother having died in infancy, two sisters, Mrs. Roy Gross of Des Moines, Iowa, and Miss Dale Williams of Two Harbors, Minn., two nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held from the Vandalia church, Wednesday afternoon, April 3, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Harriet McMurray of the Open Bible Church of Vandalia in charge. Mrs. L. M. Brockett and Mrs. C. B. Osborne sang “Rock of Ages”, “In the Upper Garden” and “Beautiful Garden of Prayer” accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Edward Stravers. Pall bearers were her nephews, Ross Gulling, Roy Gulling, Harlan Gulling, Carl Gross, Ralph Gulling and Blake Gulling.
