F. Grote Rites Held Tuesday
Funeral services for Fred Grote, 60, who died at the Skiff Memorial hospital Sunday of internal injuries suffered recently from a fall, were conducted from the Murdoch funeral home Thursday afternoon with the Rev. Ross Mills of Green Mountain in charge.
During the services Ralph Miller sang “In the Garden,” and “The Old Rugged Cross,” accompanied by Mrs. R. L. Jackson.
Mrs. George Myers and Mrs. Milton Breckenridge were in charge of the floral pieces.
Those serving as pallbearers were Lewis Dammon, Milton Breckenridge, George Myers, Harry Jess, Louis Iske and Otis Petted. Burial was in the Newton Union cemetery.
Mr. Grote, born Feb. 23, 1881, in Germany, came to this country at an early age with other members of the family, settling in Jasper county where he had spent his entire life.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Wilhelmina Grote, a brother, Harry, and sister, Mrs. Fred Illingsworth, all of Newton.
