Mrs. H. M. Tharp Funeral Services Held Tuesday
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Monroe Methodist church for Mrs. Ruby (Lillian) Tharp, 69, wife of one of this community’s most prominent citizens, Dr. H. M. Tharp.
Mrs. Tharp had been a patient at Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines for three weeks and had been ill only a short time before that. She died at her home here Sunday at 6:30 a.m.
Survivors include her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Frank J. (Winona) Fisher of Des Moines, and a granddaughter, Lorna Kay Fisher of Des Moines.
Also surviving are two brothers, Homer Clement of Newton and Stoy Clement of Seattle, Wash., and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Orin Young, with Crumpacker Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Special music was provided by Mrs. Tharp’s granddaughter, Lorna Kay Fisher, vocal soloist, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Ralph Gloyd. Mrs. A Disrud served as organist.
Pallbearers were Robert Tice, Oscar Ammer, Jack Andeweg, Harry Worth, Walter Ratcliff and Henry Van Haalen.
In charge of flowers were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Yowell, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Fennema, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rinemuth and Mrs. Harold Bowie.
The Order of Eastern Star conducted services at the Monroe cemetery where burial was held.
Mrs. Tharp was active in church and community affairs, belonging to the Monroe Methodist church, the Order of Eastern Star, the Pythian Sisters, Rebekah Lodge, American Legion auxiliary; the Monroe Woman’s club and the Women’s Society of Christian Service of the Methodist church.
The Tharps, married on Nov. 22, 1905, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1955 at an open house.
The daughter of James Basil and Caroline Clement, Mrs. Tharp was born November 18, 1886 at Scandia, Kan.
Educated in Scandia schools, Mrs. Tharp also attended school in Grinnell.
Mrs. Tharp came to Iowa in 1900, residing in the state the remainder of her life with the exception of seven years spent in Chicago. Mrs. Tharp was a resident of Monroe since 1927.
