Donna May Patterson, 86, passed away Friday, October 30, 2020, at Accura HealthCare of Newton-East after a long and courageous battle against Alzheimer 's disease. Donna was born on February 19, 1934 in Colfax, Iowa, the daughter of Donald George "Mike" Jones and Gertrude Ann (Border) Jones. Donna attended Colfax High School and graduated in 1952. After graduation Donna attended Mercy School of Nursing and graduated in 1955 as a registered nurse. Donna married Robert (Bob) Glenn Patterson of Prairie City on September 16, 1955. The couple had two sons, Douglas (Doug) Robert Patterson and Steven (Steve) Phillip Patterson.

The couple moved to Colfax in the late 1950s for Bob to work as a Pharmacist at Weirick and Patterson Pharmacy. Donna spent the next 60 years as a devoted homemaker and mother who loved cooking, cleaning absolutely everything, reading, making crafts, helping at the pharmacy, and taking care of her family. Donna also volunteered her nursing skills to give local children immunizations and health screenings at the local school. Donna was well known and loved for her good sense of humor and her ability to have a conversation with anyone.

Those left to honor her memory include her sons and daughters-in-law; Doug (Wendy) Patterson, Steve (Willow) Patterson all of Colfax; six grandchildren, Courtney (Brian) Buchman of Colfax, Whitney (Tommy Sanchez) Patterson of Prairie City, David (Julianne) Patterson of Ankeny, Robert (Kendall) Patterson of Colfax, Stuart Patterson of Colfax, Kaitlyn (Eduardo Alvarado) Patterson of Colfax; eight great-grandchildren Emmalyn, Melienna, Lucas, Coraline, Landon, Phillip, Noah, and Logan; and her siblings; Ann Shuey of Colfax, Patricia (Gary) Reed of Winder, Georgia, Gary (Linda) Jones of Colfax, and Craig (Brenda) Jones of Colfax, along with several nieces and nephews. Donna was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Bob.

A celebration of Donna's life will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church in Colfax. Burial will take place at McKeever Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 10:00 am until service time at the church. Masks required for all in attendance.
