Catherine J (Smith) Tinnermeier
February 4, 1933 ~ September 12, 2020 (age 87)

Catherine J. Tinnermeier, 87, of Newton died on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at her home in rural Newton. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 17, at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. The service will be live-streamed on the church's Facebook page. The family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m., Wednesday, September 16, at her home at 1006 Holly Ave. Newton. Memorials to the Jasper County Museum, First United Methodist Church, or the Pink Ribbon Support Group may be left at the church the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Catherine, the daughter of William and Christina (Gibson) Smith, was born on February 4, 1933 in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1951. Catherine was united in marriage with Wayne H. Tinnermeier on September 20, 1953 at St. John’s Church in rural Newton. Catherine was a homemaker for many years and later worked at the secretary for Baxter Farm Service for 19 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Chat-A-Bit Club, the North Neighborhood Club, and multiple card clubs. She enjoyed doing water aerobics at the YMCA and volunteering at the Jasper County Museum. Catherine liked playing cards, doing word searches and Sudoku, and reading books. She also loved spending time on Facebook and commenting on people’s posts.

Catherine is survived by her children, Debra (Tim) Chance of Newton and Scott (Julie) Tinnermeier of Galion, Ohio; grandchildren, Melissa (Darin) Kramer, Matthew (KayLea) Marchant, and Luke Tinnermeier; her great-grandchildren, Karlee Rebik, Brayin Kramer, Kensley Marchant, and Tori Marchant; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Boulicault of Newton, Jean Tinnermeier of Fort Collins, Colorado and CeCe Smith of North Tonawanda, New York; and her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne in 2015; son, Steven Wayne Tinnermeier; three sisters, Doris Versteegh, Margaret Hevlin, and Sally Smith; two brothers, Edward Smith and Tom Smith; nieces, Linda Franklin and Barb Ealey; and nephew, David Versteegh. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 12 Sept 2020.
