Jerry Stump
August 25, 1937 - July 3, 2020

Jerry Dean Stump was born in Grundy Center, Iowa on August 25, 1937. He was the seventh of eight children that were born to Harry M. and Ida Mae (Lucas) Stump. Jerry attended school in Albia, Iowa through the 9th grade and completed high school in Pella, Iowa. In 1955 he began working as a line worker at the Rolscreeen Company in Pella. Jerry took classes offered by the company in manufacturing and in 1958 enlisted in the Iowa National Guard. Subsequent to his active duty he returned to his previous employment with the Rolscreen Company where he and Bernice Mae Roozeboom met. Jerry and Bernice spent every Sunday night under a tree near the Scholte House in Pella and were united in marriage on March 7, 1960, in the parsonage of the Second Christian Reformed Church. Bernice’s mother, Magdalene (Hoksbergen) Roozeboom, was a great inspiration to them as they bought a house and raised their family, a son, Gregory Dean, a daughter, Rebecca Mae who died infancy in 1962, and a son, Randal Scott. Jerry became an inspector of windows for Pella Corporation and eventually a cost center manager. He dedicated his working life to Pella Corporation, retiring in January, 2001, and received an Award for Attendance and his 45 years of service. Following his retirement Jerry continued to enjoy helping others, in addition to his children and grandchildren, and became a Certified Counselor for the Calvinist Cadet Corps.

He and Bernice were members of the Faith Christian Reformed Church in Pella at the time when he went on several Cary, Mississippi mission trips. Jerry became the first volunteer for Hospice of Pella in 1988, he never knew a stranger, and was currently working for market place magazine. He enjoyed trout fishing in northeast Iowa, collecting model trains and coins. He and Bernice had an appreciation for Christian gospel music, and attending bluegrass festivals where his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jo (Roozeboom) and Garret Pleima, played. They enjoyed camping and their favorite place to camp was at Twin Anchors Campground near Colo, Iowa.
