Hughes, Carrie Mae McKeever – 1916-1997

Funeral services for Carrie Mae Hughes, 81, of Heritage Manor Care Center, were held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.
The Rev. Robert Hinshaw, pastor of the Ashton Chapel, conducted services. Burial was in McKeever Cemetery in rural Colfax.
Memorials in her name will be accepted.
Mrs. Hughes died of heart failure Monday evening, Sept. 22, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Born Jan. 9, 1916, in Valeria, she was the daughter of Frederick and Carrie Lula Borts McKeever. She graduated from Mingo High School.
A homemaker, she married Jonathan Hughes Oct. 14, 1933, in Des Moines. Besides a short period where she lived in Des Moines, Mrs. Hughes was a life-long resident of Jasper County.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Pat of Monroe, and Roy of Urbandale; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, who died July 16, 1996; three brothers, Hamilton, Warren, and Fred, and three sisters, Ladye, Ida Belle, and Lola.
