Colfax – Leonard Eugene Cahill, 71, of Rt. 1, Box 91, Colfax, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, at his home of lung cancer.
Graveside rites will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Greencastle Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton after 1 p.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials in his name will be accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Margaret; two sons, Bernard Louis at home and Leonard Eugene Jr. of Marshalltown; a daughter, Ida Reynolds of Chariton; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother, Raymond Cahill of Independence; and a sister, Ruth Baker of Boise, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Larry Lawayne, Nov. 24, 1972 and a granddaughter.
Mr. Cahill, an employee of the Maytag Co. in Newton for approximately 30 years, was a member of the United Workers, Local 997, Retirees Union.
He was employed in the Maytag Co. receiving department, retiring Nov. 30, 1981.
The son of Eugene “Jack” and Ida Augusta Luloff Cahill, he was born Nov. 24, 1919 in Independence.
He was married to Margaret Jane Hayes July 24, 1943 in Independence.
Mr. Cahill had resided in Kellogg for 17 years prior to moving to the Colfax area.
