1921 - 2020

Clarice passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Accura West Health Care in Newton. According to Clarice's wishes, there will be no service. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Clarice was the daughter of Alan Davis and Grace (Wharff) Aldridge. She was born September 25, 1921 in New Virginia Iowa. She moved to Newton and graduated from Newton High School with the class of 1939. After graduating from high school, she when to work of the Automatic Washer Company in Newton which later became the Maytag Corporation. At work as the receptionist, she met Robert (Bob) Thompson, a young engineer from Ames who she later married on August 8, 1943.

Clarice was a homemaker, campfire leader, gardener, golfer, painter and a good friend to many. She always enjoyed her rose garden and loved the outdoors. She began painting in 1968 and enjoyed a prolific painting hobby for many years. Many of her friends and family members are enjoying her artwork today as she never sold any, but gifted many.

Clarice is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Tim Wells of Windsor Heights, grandson Jeffrey McGinn of Norwalk, great grandson Brian McGinn of West Des Moines, sister-in-law Joan Aldridge of Newton, nieces: Nancy LeBlanc and Debra Aldridge and nephews: Dave Aldridge and Mike Aldridge. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bob in 2009, her sister Estella Birkenholtz, her brother Dave Aldridge and her brother-in-law Francis Birkenholtz and nephew Steve Birkenholtz.
