Mildred A. Wing, 93, of Colfax died Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines. A funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, at First Baptist Church in Colfax. Burial will follow at McKeever Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 21, at the church with the family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

Mildred was born on April 28, 1919, to Golie and Elizabeth Maddy in Tracy, Iowa. She grew up on a farm near Pleasantville, Iowa. Mildred graduated from Knoxville High School and taught in rural Marion country school after graduation. She married Loren Wing on February 7, 1941, in Pleasantville. In 1945, they moved to a farm south of Valeria, where they raised registered Guernsey cows. Mildred had a green thumb – a real talent for growing house plants and she always had a large vegetable and flower garden. She loved to cook and bake and was well known for her potato salad and pies, especially her black raspberry and gooseberry.
She accepted Christ as her savior as a young girl. She was a 60+ year member of the First Baptist Church. She also held the following church offices: deaconess, church clerk, treasurer, financial secretary, LMC president and treasurer, and AWANA secretary. She taught a Sunday School class for 50 years. Mildred also corresponded with 25 missionaries over the years. She was devoted to her family. She remembered every birthday, anniversary, or special day with a card and personal note.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Lila (Robert) Maher of Colfax, Marilyn (Michael) Kintz of Elk Grove, California, Marlin (Lael) Wing of Colfax, Darrell (Darla) Wing of Colfax and David (Theresa) Wing of Runnells. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Preceding Mildred in death were her parents, husband and two sisters, Marie Vroegh and Lucille Maddy.
