Myra M. Redman-Frohardt, 89, of Newton died Friday, March 19, at Heritage Manor Health Care Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. Mary Schnepf officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will be available from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in her name to the First United Methodist Church, Jasper County Historical Society or Jasper County Concert Association.
The daughter of Forrest G. and Susan E. (Landeau) Redman, she was born March 31, 1914, in Oberlin, Kan. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in music from Northwestern University in Illinois.
On June 14, 1936, she married Dr. Edwin W. Frohardt in Evanston, Ill. She was a public school teacher and taught music lessons for many years. She was a church minister's wife, involved in many aspects of church ministry. She served in the ministry with her husband in Alliance, Neb., at Morning Sun in Fairview, in Moulton, at Grace Methodist Church in Burlington, and First United Methodist churches in Indianola, Boone, Muscatine and Newton. She retired in 1974.
Mrs. Frohardt was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1966, founder of Jasper County Concert Association and Spirit of '76 Questers, Bridge Club, Garden Club P.E.O. Chapter ME, Kiwanis Kweens and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed music and her piano, gardening, playing bridge, reading, antiques and traveling. She played the organ for the First United Methodist Church for many years.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Joan Frohardt of Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Bob Dodder of Parker, Colo.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Robert Redman.
